38. Qualities of Lord Caitanya
38. Qualities of Lord Caitanya:
"At the age of 15, Nimai Pandita spoke with eloquence and unrivalled powers of conversation. His voice was always musical.
His ordinary language was always poetry, interspersed with bright and sparkling gems of thought and imagination. Before going to Gaya and receiving initiation from Śrī Iśvara Puri, Nimai Pandita was seen in Nadia as a proud arrogant scholar, 'the literary king in the city of learning."
"But upon returning to Nadia, Nimai Pandita exhibited extraordinary humility. He would fall at the feet of any Krsna bhakta and render menial service. Nimai would carry their baskets of offerings for Gangā pūjā or wring out their wet garments after they bathed. The people were embarrassed to take service from such an exalted person, and they begged Nimai to stop. Nimai would reply, 'I have heard that Krsna promises to bless anyone who serves a pious man. Why then do you want to deprive Me the chance of winning His favour?"
"Humility softens the heart of those who witness it, especially when it is displayed by a great person. Nimäi's unparalleled humility surprised and moved both the bhaktas and the materialists. Even the jealous among Nadia's intelligentsia gave up their envy upon seeing Nimai's piety, sincerity, and humility. Nimai looked like the avatara of simplicity, honesty and sweetness." (Lord Gauranga)
"All glories to Lord Gauranga, who is more beautiful than millions of Kamadevas, more pleasing than millions of moons, and more affectionate than millions of mothers. Gauränga is more generous than millions of celestial desire trees, and more profound than millions of oceans. He is sweeter than millions of honey-flower nectars. Lord Gaurasundara is filled with millions of sentiments of the nectar of pure love for Śrī Krsna.
"Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu does not consider whether a person is qualified or not, nor does He see who is His own and who is an outsider. He does not consider who should receive and who should not. He does not consider whether it is the proper time. The Lord at once gives the nectar of pure devotional service. Such fortune is difficult to attain even by meditation, seeing the deity, offering obeisances, hearing the message of the Lord, or by following a host of spiritual practices. That Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Gaurahari, is my only shelter." (Sri Caitanya Candramrta)
